EMERGENCY CARDS

Parents/guardians, please fill out an Emergency Card for each child that you have in this school.  Please include several numbers where you can be reached.  If these numbers change during the year, please call the school to update them.  It is imperative that we have several phone numbers where parents/guardians may be reached in case of an emergency or if a student becomes ill.

Please note that we will ONLY allow those persons whose names appear on the child’s Emergency Card to pick them up from school.  Until we know you, we will also ask that you show and ID, so please bring this inside with you.  If the person’s name is NOT on the card, and we do not have a written note from the parent with a telephone number that can be used to verify the authenticity of the note, we will NOT release the child to that person.  The child will be sent home on his/her bus as usual.

This is for your child’s safety for we truly do not want any of our children to end up missing or worse.  If you have any questions, please contact the school and we will be happy to address your concerns.

DROPPING OFF & PICKING UP CHILDREN

No cars are allowed in the bus lane between the hours of 7:30 – 8:30 A.M. and 2:30-3:30 P.M. If you are dropping off or picking up your child before or after school, we ask that you park beyond the main entrance or on White Sands.  Parents should not be crossing between buses and cars to take their children to their vehicles.  This practice is unsafe!  You will be asked to walk all the way down the sidewalks if you are walking your child(ren) to your vehicle.  If you do not need to go in the school, you can drop them off by the school crossing guard.  Do not drop off students before 8:00 A.M.  REMINDER:  Students are not to be checked out after 2:55 P.M.  It is too hectic in the office at dismissal time to take care of calling classrooms for check-outs.  We want our students to enter their vehicles on the passenger side for safety reasons.  We suggest car seats and packages be placed on the driver’s side in the back seat.   A sign with your child’s name in the windshield really helps the car pool line move faster.  Car riders will be loaded behind the cafeteria on White Sands Drive at dismissal.  Vehicles should line up behind the cafeteria driveway facing Elain Drive.  Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Real Men Read
Monday, February 9, 2009 was set aside for a Real Men Read day at Area IV elementary schools, including Park Forest Mrs. Clark  and Dr. Kelly provided  copies of Oh, the Places You'll Go!" by Dr. Seuss. Real Men Read t-shirts were ordered
for the men who volunteered to come and spend time with our boys.

The volunteers  read to small groups of boys in grades 3 through 5. Each group had 30 minutes, and the boys answered discussion questions after the reading.

Everyone enjoyed the story, including several of the men who had never read the book before.  Many of the boys enjoyed the book and magazine display created by our reading coach, Mrs. Hulbert with materials that are available through our library.

Special Thanks to Mr Bonvillain, Mr. Gibson, Coach Brooks, Mr. Harris and Mr. Williams who were our volunteers.

Campus Work Day

On Febuary 7th, Volunteers from Healing Place Church and paren and staff volunteers worked to beautify our campus.  The U.S. map in front of the school was repainted, as were the sidewalk games in front of the kindergarten building.  Seven of the nine trees that had been donated to the school were planted.  THe other two trees will be put in soon.  Thanks to everyone who helped, and a special thanks to staff and parents who brought refreshments for all

We still need to put the finishing touches on the U.S. map and install flower beds for each grade level to tend.  Home Depot has donated bulbs, plants and humming bird feeders. for the beds.  We will schedule another work day for completing this work.

Math Day

On Thursday, January 29, 2009, students in pre-k through fifth grade participated in mathematical activities all day.  The theme for the event, "Park Forest Pirates Take Math Everywhere," had all staff members on camputs showing students the importance of math in our daily lives - the

library, in art, music, and P.E.; in classrooms, halls, the auditorium and out doors.  Contests made for excitement, and all had hands-on experiences with measurement, estimation, and math problems.  This was our first campus-wide math Day, but from the smiles and enjoyment, it will not be our last!
